8 Facebook groups that will help boost traffic to your travel blog

For my business, Facebook groups have been an amazing marketing tool for me.  They not only provide a great way to get my articles out there but also to connect with my audience that are travelling to certain areas.  As I said in a previous post, I am joined to A LOT of groups, maybe over 50 now.  That might seem a little crazy but there is a reason as to why I have joined each and every group.  I am going to give you an insight into the 8 Facebook groups that I am joined to so you can see how I use them to reach a larger audience on my blog.

We Travel We Blog

I use this not only to connect with my other travel blogging buddies but also the weekly Twitter share thread which I mentioned in my post ‘9 ways to make your travel blog more popular’.  The weekly tweet is an amazing feature to promote your new articles because there are around 70-90 people in the thread who all have a varied size audience. Your tweet will be tweeted 70-90 times by those people!  It’s also a great opportunity to share some amazing articles on your Twitter account throughout the week so you keep an engaged audience and so your Twitter account grows.  I use Buffer to schedule all of those tweets for the week.  I probably only takes me 20 minutes to copy and paste all the tweets in my buffer and then I don’t have to think about it for the week.  For all the bloggers that tweet my pre-written tweet, I also re-tweet it so it shows on my account that other people are tweeting my article.

Travel Bloggers Mega Share

The two weekly threads I use in this group called ‘Saturday Blog comments’ and the ‘Bonus Saturday comments’.  These threads are used to you place an article link into the thread and comment on the 10 people above you.  I use both comment threads sometimes on the same articles or two different ones that need a little love!  Basically each weekend I will get 20 new comments on my blog which is great.  Sometimes people don’t want to be the first person to comment on a blog so they won’t. It great to have some comments on there so people are not scared to give it a little love too!

Pinterest for Travel Bloggers

Every day there is a new Pinterest sharing thread. You place your pin and re-pin everyone else on the thread.  I find this works brilliantly as there are usually 20-40 people who participate in this thread.  I not only find some helpful articles through this group but I also get loads of re-tweets.  I don’t use this every day but probably 3 or 4 times a week.  There is also two other similar groups called ‘Travel bloggers guide to Pinterest and Ultimate Pinterest group for travel bloggers which do the exact same thread.  So, between those two Facebook groups imagine how many re-pins your article can get!

Female Travel Bloggers

This group have a monthly schedule for sharing your content so it’s fantastic way to get your articles out there through lots of different forms of social media.  My favourite is the #blogpostsaturday when you’re allowed to share one article on the wall.  What’s important about joining Facebook groups is ensure they are relevant to your niche.  I don’t see the point in joining a random Facebook group if I have to share content about mummy or food bloggers when that’s not what my audience wants to see.  There’s a group called ‘Social Media Sharing’ which does daily threads of lots of different social media.  I liked the threads to begin with but then I realised I had to share a tonne of content I knew my audience weren’t really interested in so I decided to not participate in that anymore.  I would be picky when choosing what threads you do.  For example, I wouldn’t do the Facebook, Pinterest or comment sharing ones because I don’t think it’s relevant to me but the Alexa ranking and Instagram likes thread might be more useful to help boost your likes etc.  Just beware sometimes there can be up to 120 comments on one thread – so it might take a little time to go through and like all the people’s pictures!

Ultimate Travel Group

This Facebook group has lots of really useful threads.  One of my favourites is the ‘Opportunities and giveaways’ where people share upcoming jobs, sometimes even press trips and also great competitions!  They also have some great sharing threads.

Monday – To get to know each other, ask questions, etc

Tuesday – Boost engagement on blog posts

Wednesday – Share where you’re travelling, what you’re doing

Thursday – Help each other increase on social media

Friday – Self promotion thread

Saturday – Opportunities

Sunday – Giveaways!

Travel Bloggers Social Media Sharing Group

With over 1000 members this is a really fantastic Facebook group that has daily and weekly threads to help you boost your travel blog.  My favourite is the Saturday post sharing, which is where you share a link to your post and the people after you share it throughout a social media account of their choice and you share the 10 people above you.  It’s great because it’s only for travel bloggers which means the content is relevant!

So, there are my favourite Facebook groups that help me boost traffic to my travel blog and that can help too.  But, that’s not it.  Here are a few things to keep in mind when participating and choosing to join these groups:

  • Always finish you thread. Don’t be one of those people who just drop their link and piss off otherwise you will be banned quite quickly.
  • Set time to participate in these groups. I usually set an hour aside each day so I can participate in these threads and finish them. Sometimes I spend half a day once a week to really catch up on everything and see what’s happening in the groups in terms of discussion etc.  Sometimes travel bloggers are asking for collaborations or advice so it’s great idea to be an active member.
  • If time is a major factor for you not participate in these groups then hire a virtual assistant. You can get them pretty cheap and they can do all of this stuff while you focus on writing the content.

Don’t forget I always offer coaching where I can help you with your travel blog.  I also have an e-course on how you can turn your travel blog into a business, which goes through all the different aspects on how you can turn your travel blog into a business. Let me know what Facebook groups you are already joined to!  Start my free 5-day email course today on how you can kick-start your travel blog into business!

This is so handy! I was primarily just an instagrammer with over 50K followers, but I’ve decided to create my own travel blog/website and engage in more social media! This was so useful, as I had no idea where to start!
    Thanks for sharing!

A handy list Anita. How long have you participated in all these groups? Have you seen any real results?

    • November 15, 2016 / 4:18 am

Thank you! I have been participating in groups for probably a year now and have had fantastic results. I wouldn’t recommend joining these groups otherwise 😉

This seems incredibly helpful! I have Instagram and Pinterest accounts but have not set up a Facebook page yet. Do you have any advice for setting up an account completely separate from my personal account? Thank you!

    • November 15, 2016 / 4:16 am

Fantastic! Yes definitely set up a Facebook page. There’s over 1.5 billion people on Facebook and it’s the most used social media so 100% make a page! It’s really easy to do. Just click on ‘create page’ on the left hand side after you login and it will tell you what to do from there 🙂

This is a fantastic list of groups. Most if them I have joined and was helpful to learn about the pinterest group! This is so helpful for new bloggers including myself who are trying to get things moving. The comment and social sharing are wonderful but there are so many great groups that offer support and getting help with questions as well when you are learning through the process. Thanks so much for sharing!

This is a really helpful list for those of us trying to boost traffic! I’m part of all of these groups aside from Ultimate Travel Group (which I just requested to join now). Another one I really like is Girls vs Globe, though it isn’t as focused on reciprocal sharing as it is on general information/travel tips.

  12. November 14, 2016 / 3:29 pm

Great to know. I am in almost all of these groups. If you are looking for sharing threads, I also have a small group that shares 3 threads per day called Share the Wealth. Come on over and join me.

Being a part of and surrounded by all the amazing travel blogging groups had single handedly changed the direction of my travel blog for the better. The selfish part of me wants to keep our groups a secret but it is better to invite other travel bloggers to the family ?
