Haha who am I kidding? I have never been asked these questions. I just thought it would be a good way for us to get to know each other!
Top 3 places you have been to?
This is a hard one, but here we go. Tokyo, Japan because it’s just plain crazy and bizarre! Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland for its amazing views and just pure stunning-ness. London, England captured my heart and will always have a piece of it. It’s so diverse and so many things to do in this beautiful city.
Cheapest places you have been to?
Lombok and Bali.
What’s your story?
Read it here.
What camera do you use?
I’m in no way a techy at all. I own a Nikon D50 which my grandma gave me around 8 years ago. I also own an iPhone 5 which I find takes amazing photos, and I’m looking to invest into a GoPro in the near future!
What’s up with your name? So my full name is Anita Hendrieka Dykstra. Obviously Anita Hendrieka are my first names. I love my names so I really wanted to use them for my brand. I am half Dutch which is why it might look complicated. If you’re wondering how to pronounce it, it is said Hen-dre-ka.
How often do you blog? I try to blog twice a week usually on a Wednesday evening (UK time) and a Sunday evening (UK time). Sometimes I experiment with what times work best with posting so occasionally the days can vary, but I do always blog twice a week. I find it can be challenging sometimes because I have a full-time job, and trying to find inspiration after a long busy day is always really hard, but I truck on through!
Are you a full-time traveller? Nope. I am a part-time traveller. I have just come back to NZ after two years living in the UK and travelling around the world. I am currently back in NZ trying to save for my next trip which will be at the end of July.
Goals for this year and your ultimate goal? This year is all about having a good time and being happy. I also want to grow my blog into something quite marvellous! Oh, and travel to India!! I don’t just have one ultimate goal I have many. Some of them are to visit all 7 continents, travel to over 100 countries by the time I’m 30 and to work for myself. I plan to make blogging my full-time job because I love it so much! My ultimate goal and where I see myself in the future, is working for myself with my blog and taking on projects to do with that.
Are you rich ’cause you must have to be if you’re travelling all the time? Arggggh nope, and I hate these assumptions which is why I included this question. I’m actually very poor because I choose to spend my money on experiences instead of materialistic things. Travelling brings me happiness, so I choose to work my butt off, save, and then spend it all. To travel you don’t have to be rich, you just have to be smart. Read my post on ‘How to get rich’ and you will understand!
Are you a real person? Yup, I am! A great one as well!
Where do you come from? I was born in a little town called Carterton, New Zealand. I was very fortunate to be able to grow up on a sheep farm which taught me to be practical in life. 22 years later I am writing this on the same farm I was brought up in, how cool!
What’s on your bucket list?
Ohhh well that list is absolutely massive! Instead of me explaining everything, head to my Pinterest Bucket list board. My top thing on my bucket list is to visit all 7 continents and over 100 countries before I turn 30.
What inspired you to do this blog?
Gala Darling. I remember the day I started it, I was 18, living in a flat with my friends and studying interior design at the time. I watched this documentary on Gala Darling and decided that I wanted to try this blogging phenomenon. I found blogging as a way out for what was going on in my life at the time and I loved focusing on something creative. I have always been a really shy person, so I felt scared to promote it in any way because I felt embarrassed. I actually started Anita Hendrieka as a D.I.Y and lifestyle blog. When I moved to the UK I decided the lifestyle part wasn’t what I felt passionate about, and decided to make it a travel blog.
When did you start this blog?
Well. I started it in 2011, but Anita Hendrieka turned into a travel blog in 2012 when I moved to England!
What are your 3 favourite blogs?
What is the coolest thing you have done?
It’s so hard to think of just one moment so my two favourite moments so far are skydiving in Las Vegas and hiking up Mt Batur in Bali!
What’s the worst travel experience?
Being stalked at midnight in Ibiza and just about dying in Indonesia. I try to make bad experiences into positive learning moments, but the Ibiza nightmare was plain scary.
Your ultimate travel tip?
Don’t expect things to go right, because when they don’t you will get stressed. If you miss that train or flight there will always be another one. There will always be people who are willing to help you if you get stuck. Don’t plan so much and just go with the flow!
