Who doesn’t love a food tour? Earlier in the year I finally visited the beautiful city of Prague and while I was there I did a food tour of the city with Eating Europe Tours. This is my second food tour I have one with the company (here’s a look into the London food tour) and I was equally impressed with this food tour! Everyone loves food, right? Well, in my opinion, doing a food tour of Prague is an absolute must and here are 5 reasons why.
Get to know the city through food
One of the best ways to learn about a culture and country is through the food. Everyone needs to eat at the end of the day, so food has a fascinating history behind it. A lot of cultural customs involve food. For example, in the Czech Republic is where gingerbread originated from and you may notice in houses in the Czech Republic, a gingerbread-like decoration. Most houses in the country have these but they are so hard that they are not edible, they are simply used for decoration!
It’s not JUST a food tour
Whilst on the tour you get to learn more about the history of the city, not just food! Our guide took us to some attractions along the way. What I loved about this as well is that the places he took us are not regularly visited by other tours. This felt like a real local tour of the city! I learnt so much about the city doing this tour, I didn’t feel like I needed to do a free walking tour or anything else whilst in the city.
Getting your bearings around the city
If you’re anything like me then you are horrible at directions. As I did the food tour when I first arrived in Prague, this was a fantastic way to get my bearings around the city. From that day on I felt like I really knew the centre city in and out and never had trouble getting lost! Doing this food tour is a great start to any holiday in Prague so make sure you book it as one of the first things you do in the city!
Get in the loop of the best places to eat during your time in Prague
After my food tour, I felt like I was prepped and ready for my time in Prague. My guide gave me some fantastic tips on where to go and where not to go during the rest of my time in Prague. I felt like this tour geared me up for a fantastic rest of my trip in Prague. Eating Europe also have the best scoop on what to do, where to eat, drink and stay in their Prague Travel guide on their website.
Food, glorious food!
Of course, the best reason to do the tour is all the glorious food we got to try. We ate A LOT, by the end of it I felt like I had well and truly eaten my way around the city. Top tip: don’t eat breakfast! You won’t need it before this tour. And if you were like me, you won’t need dinner afterwards either! During the tour, I got to taste authentic gingerbread, some of the best meat I’ve had, soup, apple strudel, Czech dumplings and beef, traditional open sandwiches (they were my favourite!), mulled wine with a beautiful mini lamb dish and of course, we tasted a local beer! Everything I tasted was absolutely delicious, I was not disappointed in anything!
If you’re travelling to Prague this year then make sure you book yourself into a food tour of the city, trust me you won’t be disappointed!
This tour was sponsored, however, as always, all opinions are my own and I wouldn’t recommend something that I didn’t absolutely love! A big thank you to Eating Europe for having me!
