It’s never a good idea to pack too many things when you’re going on a vacation. Here are some tips to help you to pick the essentials you need… without bringing along everything in your bedroom closet. Here’s your ultimate packing checklist!
1. Do your homework
First, you must determine the type of weather that is in the area that you are travelling to so that you won’t feel too hot or too cold.
Also, consider the types of activities that your group is interested in. If you’re travelling with your friends on this vacation, then you should discuss your plans beforehand to help you decide what will find its way into your suitcase.
Additional things to think about are having a way to wash garments, or alternatively, you can have some items dry-cleaned in only a few hours. One of the best things about travelling to several locations is that you can wear the same outfit multiple times — the only people that will notice are the girls that are with you on the trip.
2. Swimwear and sandals
If you are travelling to a location that has a beach or a swimming pool, then bring along one bathing suit and sandals. When you look great in a bikini, then that is a great bathing suit to pack, but if you want more coverage, then find a fashionable one-piece bathing suit.
Choose sandals that you may use for multiple purposes, including walking on a pool’s deck or to wear while sightseeing with your friends. You may also want to bring along a lightweight beach cover-up, but you should try to choose a garment that you can also use in another way while travelling.
3. Skin care products
Find out if the hotel or resort where you are staying will provide items such as soap or lotion so that you don’t need to pack these items.
If you are travelling for hundreds of miles, then consider stopping at a local drugstore to buy some skincare items that you can share with your friends. Share products such as hand cream or sunscreen lotion – that way you can each pack different items in your suitcases.
4. Must-have outfits
When you are choosing the garments to pack, think about having garments that you can mix and match into different outfits. If you choose a colour theme for the travelling clothes, then it is easier to look as if you have many outfits while you are on a vacation.
Many travellers recommend darker colours of garments so that it is easier to wear a pair of slacks or a shirt more than one time. Black, navy blue or dark grey are great choices of colours. However, if you are travelling to a warmer climate, then you may prefer having tan or white pants or shirts.
Having at least three pairs of slacks and three shirts are recommended. Choose tops that you can layer so you’ll be prepared if it is cold in the morning or evening. Remember that if you plan on going to a party or a fancy restaurant, then you’ll need to bring along a little black dress or a blouse and skirt. It’s also a good idea to pack one pair of dressy shoes that you can wear with the dressier outfit but that will also match your other garments.
If you want to wear makeup while travelling, then buy small empty bottles to use for your liquid foundation and blush. Avoid packing numerous types of makeup, but make sure to place the containers in a sealable plastic bag to prevent any spillage. Makeup is one of the things that you shouldn’t share with your friends due to the dangers of contamination.
Have a lingerie bag for your suitcase to store undergarments such as brassieres and panties. Remember that it easy for you to wash panties or brassieres in a hotel’s sink, and the items will likely dry in one day.
You can use the shampoos that are provided by a hotel to wash undergarments in the evening, and you can hang the items near an air conditioner or a furnace vent. Some travellers on longer trips recommend bringing along older panties in a suitcase, and throwing the items away while you are travelling.
7. Hair care items
If your hotel provides hair conditioner and shampoo, then don’t pack these items unless you require a specific brand because you have allergies to certain ingredients. Alternatively, you can share hair products with your friends while travelling, but make sure to look for travel-size bottles to pack.
Bring along a hairbrush, but look for a smaller one that you can carry in a handbag. Today, most resorts and hotels will provide a hair dryer so you can leave this heavy and bulky item at home.
8. Oral health items
Don’t forget to bring along a travelling toothbrush and a small package of dental floss along with a small tube of your favourite toothpaste. Avoid bringing along a bottle of liquid mouthwash, but you can keep a mouth spray or breath mints in your handbag.
9. Walking shoes and socks
Wear a sturdy pair of walking shoes while travelling, and make sure to bring along absorbent socks. By wearing socks while sightseeing, you can prevent major problems such as blisters on your heels or athlete’s foot.
10. Choose a sturdy, versatile suitcase
Finally, make sure to find a great suitcase that has high-quality wheels and a sturdy handle so that you can push or pull it through an airport or train station.
You may like having dividers in the suitcase to keep things separated and free of wrinkles. Learn how to fold or roll garments into compact shapes to pack more into a smaller suitcase. When you are shopping for certain items to bring along, consider investing in smaller containers, or alternatively, you can share things such as a hair curler with your friends while you are travelling.
